Testimony of Don Wilde"Don, wake up! Don, wake up!" These were the first words I heard upon coming out of a coma. Two nurses, one on either side of my hospital bed trying to get me to return to consciousness. As my eyes were beginning to open, they quickly assured me of the reason for my being in hospital. They informed me that I had been involved in a serious accident and that it was not my fault. They also assured me that no one had died as the result of the collision. That happened on Easter weekend of 1968. As I look back to that time of my life, I realized that if I had died I would be spending eternity in hell. All the events since that time told me that God was trying to get my attention. This was one of three accidents I was involved in. After this particular accident I was to learn of the many miracles that showed the sovereignty of God. Having been in a coma for three days, all memories of this event were erased from my mind. As I thought about it much later on, this mishap was an answer to a prayer I made to God. Out of desperation with tears running down my face I cried out to God, "If there is a God and you hear this prayer, then show me your love." I'm not exactly sure of the time between that prayer and the time of the accident, but God brought me through it all. I eventually made a commitment to accept Jesus Christ as my Lord and Saviour after viewing a Billy Graham film at a local high school in the city where I worked. It has been almost thirty years since I made that decision. I moved to Saskatoon from Regina after graduating from Canadian Bible College in 1992. I am still seeking out God's will for my life. Volunteering at Western Tract Mission is just one more adventure on the way to fulfilling that will. I base my hope on the Scripture found in the book of Jeremiah 29:11-13. |
