The NEW Mark Jenkins Memorial RideThe number in the cyclathon, organized by the Cycling Connection, for June 22-23 was small, but it was a huge success for us. More then $1500.00 was raised by the Jenkins family, who cycled in memory of their son, Mark Jenkins who died July 15, 2000 in an accident. Barb Jenkins, a new volunteer in the correspondence department, with husband Doug, and sons, Collin, Michael, and Jody, as well as 12 year old grandson, Matthew, took the challenge on as a family, each cycling a number of kilometres, the sons finishing off on the Sunday, because Barb and Doug had to leave on previously made holiday plans. Mark had often asked to go on the John Bosco Ride, but Barb felt he'd been too young to go. When she heard of this cyclathon at her first staff prayer meeting, Barb knew she would ride for Jesus, in memory of Mark. At the start of this ride, Earl Klassen, head of the Cycling Connection announced the name would be changed to the Mark Jenkins Memorial Ride. Next year there will be more cyclists!
