"Everybody Ought to Know". . . about Impact Canada,
a department of Western Tract Mission (WTM). Impact Canada is a planned,
systematic way of fulfilling the Great Commission. The Great Commission is
found in Matthew 28:19, "Go therefore, and make disciples of all nations,
baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy
Spirit," and in Acts 1:8 "and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem,
and in all Judea and Samaria, and unto the end of the earth."
Impact Canada
was started when the Mission had the vision to let everybody know who Jesus
is by giving them a number of gospel tracts in the mail. We started in
Newfoundland mailing tracts to every town with one postal code. To date we
have covered every town from Newfoundland all the way to Alberta. Presently
we are in Northern Alberta and when complete will be going into BC. We are
able to mail un-addressed packets of Gospel literature to every residence in
a community for just over 10 cents per letter including the tax.
How does this program work?
Impact Canada starts with a group of committed Christians who are interested
in doing mission work right from their home. These Christians form what we
call a Tract Club and meet regularly to mail envelopes with tracts to a
specific town. The group decides how many householders it wants to serve
each mailing and WTM matches that request to a town of similar size. We also
supply the tracts, response cards, envelopes and paper work required by Canada
Post. The Tract Club is responsible to stuff 4-5 tracts and a response card
into an envelope, pray the Lords blessing on the tracts and supply the postage
(10 cents per envelope).
What happens when a response card is returned?
When a response card is received, we write to the person, then check to see
what group sent that mailing. That information is forwarded to the group leader
who is responsible for the rest of the follow-up. In 2002 we received 8
responses indicating that a person had become a new Christian, and other Christian
responses through the "Impact Canada" program.
What do I have to do to get started?
The leader becomes a member of WTM. (no sweat); the group decides and advises
WTM how many householders you want to serve in one mailing, (no sweat); the
supplies are either picked up or WTM forwards them to you (no sweat). The
Tract Club then meets, stuffs the envelopes, prays and takes them to the post
office. As an added bonus you will automatically receive a WTM monthly Praise
and Prayer letter enabling you to better pray with us.
What kind of WTM tracts are included in the supplies?
WTM tracts are geared for the biblically illiterate, and to a large degree are
testimonies of people who have lived in sin. We have found that the average
person today does not know what sin is, and we seek to show them what it really
is and what to do about it. The tracts go on to explain how one person came to
see the light that Jesus gives, asked for forgiveness and made a commitment
to Him. Most tracts have a sinner's prayer at the end.
This coming year WTM is looking to double the number of Tract Clubs that we have
operating in the country. Would you be willing to join? A little math will tell
you that at 10 cents an envelope it would be possible to supply tracts to 200
households for only $20. Likewise 1,000 households could be reached for $100.
Can you imagine a more cost-effective way of spreading the gospel and fulfilling
the Great Commission? We would love to hear from you, please contact us at the
address on the back page.
