A second role model we will look at is Esther. This is a wonderful story of
how Esther became queen and saved the Jewish race. This was God's purpose for
her life and He worked out the circumstances so that it could be accomplished.
Even though God is not mentioned throughout this book, it is obvious that He
was in control and directing the events that unfolded.
Queen Vashti was deposed of her position as queen when she refused to obey a
command of the king. Virgins throughout the land were chosen and brought to
the palace of the king where one would be chosen to be queen. Esther was
selected to replace Queen Vashti because she was the most beautiful.
Haman, a high government official, who had a grudge against one Jew, drew up
a decree to have all Jews within the kingdom killed. But God already had Esther
chosen as His means of saving the Jewish people. Mordecai, Esther's devoted
uncle, reminded her that "Yet who knows whether you have come to the kingdom
for such a time as this." (Esther 4:4)
Haman's plot was discovered when Esther explained it to the king. Haman became
a victim of his own plot and Mordicai was given his position of being second
only to the king. The final result was that the Jewish race was spared.
This wonderful story helps us to realize that God has put each of us on this
earth for a purpose. We must find his purpose for our lives and be willing to
fulfill it. That way our lives will bring honor and glory to Him.
