This was originally a German hymn translated by Edwards Caswall and Robert
Bridges. I have two hymnals that say Joseph Barnby is presumed to have written
this hymn.
This hymn was probably written in the lovely Franconia section of Germany, the
home of fairy-tale castles, deep green forests, and lovely mountain ranges.
Regardless of who wrote this hymn or where it was written, the important
thing is that our praise to God should not be limited to church services,
but should also overflow to our homes and workplaces. It doesn't matter what
our surrounding, Jesus Christ deserves our praise at anytime. The scriptures
say, "Sing to the Lord a new song" (Psalms 96:1; 149:1 and Isaiah 42:10).
