Lewis Warkentin is a Board member at Western Tract Mission and the man who
handles the Scripture Signs orders, and when required, he puts them up. Lewis
also checks on those within driving distance in the area to see if they need
maintenance work due to storms or vandalism.
Five years ago, when Lewis became a Board member at Western Tract Mission, he
was asked to help out Jake Harder, the man who for many years headed Sign
Evangelism Fellowship. Mr. Harder had come on the Board at Western Tract
Mission when the ministry came under our auspices, hoping to share the work
load with younger co-workers.
Lewis is doing most of the coordinating work, and maintenance now. But he would
like more orders and a co-worker or two.
One elderly man named Philip asked for a large 4x8 double sign on his farm land.
He wanted it sturdy, so Lewis recruited a friend to help him install it.
"That sign is so strong, no wind is likely to take it down!" Lewis said.
Philip prayed a prayer of dedication over the sign too.
Jake Harder used to send the signs far and wide across the country, but Lewis
thinks the farthest he has sent one, is the one that went out this summer to a
Bible camp at 100 Mile House, B.C.
When an order comes in, Lewis takes the materials to Reg in Saskatoon, a
talented sign-painter, who does this for the Lord, more than for money. "He
could certainly use more," says Lewis. "Reg runs a coffee house for natives,
and lives very simply so he can give to the needy."
Lewis is especially pleased that Mervin Driedger of Dalmeny has begun to
alternate signs at that town. This has begun a trading with others who have
signs up, so they are beginning to circulate. The communities taking part
exchange their sign for another Scripture sign.
Testimonies seldom come in to the office concerning the signs. If you have been impacted, your words would be an encouragement to our cheerful and faithful
servant, Lewis, working in the background.
