Imitating Christ's Humility

The best model of humility that you will ever find is in what Christ demonstrates to us in the short time He was here on earth. Phil. 2:5 tells us, Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus. We are to be like-minded. Verse 4 adds we should look not only to our own interests, but also to the interests of others.

Jesus Humbled Himself: - He emptied Himself, It was a voluntary non-use of some of His attributes; His omnipotence (all powerful), His omniscience (knowledge), and His omnipresence. He chose not to be present everywhere. He personally willed not to make use of His attributes.

By making Himself a Servant - For even the Son of man did not come to be served, but to give His life as a ransom for many. (Mark 10:45) As you read the gospels you see Him as a servant to the sick, the blind, the lepers, those in sorrow, to the poor, the helpless and down and out. A good example of Him as a servant is seen in John 13:5. He poured water into a basin and began to wash His disciples' feet, and to wipe them with the towel with which He was girded. After washing their feet, Jesus told them to serve each other like that.

We often have pride instead of being humble servants. Yet this attitude runs absolutely contrary to that which Christ modeled for us when He came to live among us as a suffering servant. Jesus said that the rulers of this world may lord it over their subjects, but if His followers wish to become truly great they must be servants. Sacrifice and service go together if service is to be true Christian ministry.

By giving His life on the cross for us - (Phil. 2:8 NIV). And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. (2 Cor.5:21).For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. Before the cross they flogged him, they mocked him, they spit on him, they put a crown of thorns on his head, and then beat on his head with a staff. After this they nailed him to a cruel cross . What a demonstration of love and humility to pay the price to deliver us from sin, death and hell. Now all we have to do is make the right choice. You can say yes to JESUS or say no. What will it be?
