Daniel was taken to Babylon along with the other Jews who were captured and
taken into exile by the Babylonians under the reign of Nebuchadnezzar. At this
time Daniel was in his middle or later teens.
He must have had some good training in his home because he knew what was right
and what was wrong. He knew how to barter with the servant who brought them rich
food without aggravating him and God blessed him for showing respect to those
ruling over him. It showed he had self-control.
God gave Daniel the ability to interpret dreams and visions. When Nebuchadnezzar
had a dream and forgot what he had dreamed, he wanted to kill all the wise men in
his kingdom because they couldn't interpret it for him. When Daniel heard of
this he asked for some time, and then asked his three friends to pray with him,
for God to help him interpret this dream. God did this for him and the lives of
the other wise men were also saved.
Daniel was a man of integrity. When king Darius wanted to set him above all his
presidents and princes they tried to find something they could accuse him of but
could find nothing.

He was a man of great courage which was evident when an edict was declared that
everyone was to worship an idol which was erected for this specific purpose.

Daniel continued to pray to his God as he had done before, even though this
meant he could lose his life. God was his protector and sent his angels to shut
the mouths of the lions when he was thrown into the lions den
Daniel was a man who was humble before his God. In Daniel 10:17 he asks God, how
can a servant of the Lord speak to the Lord. He is speaking of himself as a
servant. Even though God raised him up as the top man next to the king, Daniel
always knew who was above him and honoured him as such. May God help us to be
humble and courageous.
