Looking Over Our Shoulder at 64 Years of History

In 1932 two men, Ed Erickson and Herb Peeler had special tent and open air services in Langham, SK. Many were saved and Christians revived.

That summer Miss Helen Peters, later a missionary in Africa, started weekly prayer meetings. Those who attended saw the value of tracts, and began to distribute them. G. W. Elliott, a business man was one of those revived, eager to spread the gospel.

He obtained tracts, and recruited other young people to help distribute them on the streets of Saskatoon. They began to mail them too.

By 1941 Mr. Elliott had organized the Western Tract Mission, and the following year membership had increased to 263, the next year, 700, which doubled to 1,400 in 1944. The mission grew to 3000 in 1946 when all the volunteers and helpers were counted; 4000, if subscribers to the mailing list were included.
