"More about Jesus in His Word, Holding communion with my Lord,
Hearing His voice in every line, making each faithful saying mine."
I John 1:3 says, "...That which we have seen and heard we declare to
you, that you also may have fellowship with us; and truly our fellowship
is with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ." Prayer is the
expression of the human heart in conversation with our God.
You can learn more about a friend from listening to him talk than by
talking to him. We can learn much from God and about God through
nature, through His Word, by the lives of those whom He has touched.
Nothing is as important as listening to God's voice as He speaks to us
through His Word.
I have never heard the audible voice of God speak to me, but in 1969 He
clearly called me to leave the farm and go into the full-time ministry. I
just felt very strongly that this is what I should do. Two weeks after I
had told my wife and the pastor of God's call, I got a letter from a church
in northern Saskatchewan, asking if I would consider being their pastor.
Some barriers that must be removed before we can hear the voice of God.
In Isaiah 59:2, "But your iniquities have separated you from your God;
And your sins have hidden His face from you, So that He will not hear."
In Isaiah 6:1-8 the prophet saw the holiness of God, then he saw himself
as a man of unclean lips. He confessed his sin. After his sin was atoned
for, he heard the voice of the Lord. 2 Chronicles 7:14. "If my people who
are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My
face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and
will forgive their sin and heal their land."
Satan will always try to stop any communication between us and God.
Oswald Sanders says, "If we ignore the part played by the HOLY Spirit
we have failed to use the master key that has been made available to us.
All true prayer springs from the HOLY Spirit's activity in the heart."
With this power we can bind the devil, (Matthew 12:29) so that we can
continue to have uninterrupted fellowship with Jesus. We cannot except
to rescue the captives without first binding the adversary. We need to
exercise the authority placed in our hands. "Behold, I give you the
authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of
the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you."(Luke 10:19). The
one concern of the devil is to keep saints from praying.
