John Samuel Whipple 1884 - 1930

John was born in New England to James and Jeannette Whipple.
His parents were not church going people but John met his future wife, Jessie Crouch, in a Sunday School class when he was twelve. But then Jessie's family moved away for some time before they came back. It was then that a long friendship started between the two.
Jessie gave her life to Christ the day after she had attended a revival meeting which John had also attended. John's ambition had always been to be a prosperous farmer. After the revival meetings he thought of the farmer he had admired who had suddenly died and the Lord waited for him to surrender his will so that He could give him His peace.
A year later John went to a prayer meeting and surrendered his life to Christ who filled his heart with joy and John knew without a doubt that he had been born again. Soon his family and neighbors knew that he was a changed man.
Shortly after John and Jessie were engaged to be married God called John to become a missionary. Jessie had already yielded to the Lord's call upon her life but John went through a time of selfish ambition before he finally surrendered his will to the Lord. Now Jessie and John felt that they should break off their engagement and not get together again unless they were brought together by the Lord.
Thus began another struggle for John. He even left Bible training classes to go and work for some farmers. Here God again met him and after two weeks he went back to the school. He now realized that he could not run away from God. He again met God in a hay loft and knew that God would always help him through every future battle. From that day his story is one of faithful and unrelenting service and devotion.
God brought John and Jessie together again and they spent most of their lives in India where John died after 17 years of intense missionary work.
