How a Busy Young Mother Runs the Race
Anna Kroeker interviewed Barb Worthington, a busy young mother of two, and wife of Kim Worthington of Youth for Christ in Saskatoon, about applying the principle of running the spiritual race to her present life in a practical way.
Anna asked;
1.Which race are you running?
2.When did you begin to prepare for the race?
3.Do you think you have a chance to win and if yes, why?
4.What are you doing to stay in the race (to run the race so that you can win)?
Here are Barb's answers;
I am running the race of raising two preschoolers. What a joy and what a challenge this race has been!
In order to prepare for this race, I read many books, asked people for advice and tried to learn as much as I could, but nothing could really prepare me for the race of parenthood. What a shock that first week was when we brought our first-born, a son, home from the hospital and began our new sleep deprived lifestyle!
Do I think I have a chance at winning this race? I believe that, with God's help this is possible. I hope and pray, and do all I can as I raise my kids, to ensure that they will be safe and happy and one day able to function as adults in society. But my main prayer is that they will learn to live for Christ and give their lives to Him.
There are definitely days when I feel like quitting this race, but that is not an option, so I look to the Lord through the Scriptures, prayer and through the encouragement of friends and family for strength to take one day at a time. I ask the Lord to give me wisdom on a regular basis. I know that we can do all things through Christ who gives us strength.
I look forward to the day when I will be able to run into my Saviour's arms, knowing that through the cross, by His grace alone, my race has been won.
