Running Into the Unknown

Christa Kroeker and her family

The past few years have given our family the opportunity to put Hebrews 12:1 into practice. Through some difficult and unexpected circumstances I have learned that running the race that God has marked out for us means letting go of what my idea of "the race" looks like.

God had called our family to move two provinces away from family and friends and to start a new adventure together. In my mind, the race that God had marked out for us was an exciting one... one that would perhaps involve buying our own home, and having long term job security for my husband. Things didn't turn out the way I thought. The job we moved for didn't turn out the way we had hoped, health issues came and depression darkened our world and the housing market sky-rocketed. So we found ourselves in a new province, with no job, poor health and no home of our own, and little support. This wasn't the race I envisioned that God had marked out for us.

This gave me the opportunity to learn that even though the race that God has set out for us may be different than the one we've planned for, His race is ALWAYS better. He sees the big picture and knows what is best for us.

Running in Perspective
As I look back on the last three years I am thankful that our family has had the privilege of experiencing God as our Provider in ways that we never could have, if everything had worked out the way we expected. God allowed us to housesit, live and work at a Summer Camp and have a peaceful life on a farm. He has also been our Healer and our Hope. He has drawn me closer to Him as I have in desperation felt that I had no other choice but to trust Him. Now I realize that trusting Him is the ONLY choice. I am learning to surrender to Him my expectations of what the race will look like as He has shown me that He is faithful and can be trusted to mark out the "best" race for my life! I am still a work in progress in this area, but I guess that is where the perseverance comes in.

Running with perseverance cannot be done without the HOPE we find in Jesus. He gives us hope as we fix our eyes on Him, not the circumstances around us, and when we trust that HE is in control. He is the one who has marked out the race for us and He is cheering us on as we run one day at a time!

His athlete, Krista Kroeker
