I was born of Mormon parents and reared in the Mormon Church; taught church history; to keep the commandments; how Joseph Smith lived and died and many other things which were supposed to prepare you for this life and the life to come. I never once doubted but that my religion was the only true
church.
I was "born again" spiritually when I knelt at my bedside and received Jesus Christ as my personal Savior as the Bible says in John 1:12, "But to as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God even to them that believe on His name." Also in John 3:3 it says, "Except a man be born again, he cannot see the Kingdom of God."
The "word of faith" that we preach is Romans 10:9-10, "That if you will confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and will believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart, man believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth, confession is made unto salvation." Paul concludes this thought in verse 13 with, "For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord, shall be saved."
The moment I received Jesus Christ into my heart, I witnessed my own new nature as testified to in 2 Corinthians 5:17, "Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature; old things pass away, behold, all things become new." The Lord Jesus said in John 5:24 that, "Verily, verily I say unto you, he that hears my word, and believes on Him who sent Me, has everlasting life and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life."
It can be best illustrated as in the case of a piece of pie. I can tell you how good it looks, how wonderful it tastes and how well it satisfies...but you cannot know for yourself until you have tasted for yourself..."Oh taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the man that trusts in Him." Psalms 34:8.
Salvation by God's grace through the atoning blood of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, is God's
only way. Ephesians 2:8-9 says, "For by grace are you saved through faith, and that not of
yourselves, it is the gift of God, not of works, lest any man should boast." And 2 Timothy 1:9, For
it is God "who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but
according to His own purpose and grace which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,"
and Titus 3:5, "Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He
saved us..."
I now worship the true and living God and not a mere man who rose step by step in the scale of
progress to where He now is. Read Journal of Dicourses, Vol. 1, page 123. "Remember that God, our
heavenly Father, was perhaps once a child, and mortal like we ourselves, and rose step by step in
the scale of progress, in the school of advancement; has moved forward and overcome, until He has
arrived at the point where He now is."
My Christ was sinless and virgin born (Isaiah 7:14; Matthew 1:18; 2 Corinthains 5:21) and was not a
polygamist as it says in Journal of Discourses Vol. 2, page 82 and Vol. 1, page 346, "We say it was
Jesus Christ who was married to be brought into the relation whereby He could see His seed, before
He was crucified." "A belief in the doctrine of a plurality of wives causes the persecution of Jesus
and his followers, we might almost think they were Mormons."
My Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life (John 14:6) and certainly not Joseph Smith as suggested
in Vol. 7, page 289 of the Journal of Discourses where it says, "Joseph Smith holds the keys of this
last dispensation, and is now engaged behind the veil in the great work of the last days...no man or
woman in this dispensation will ever enter into the celestial kingdom of God without the consent of
Joseph Smith...every man and woman must have the certificate of Joseph Smith, Jr. as a passport to
their entrance into the mansion where God and Christ are I with you and you with me. I cannot go
there without His consent...He reigns there as supreme a being in His sphere, capacity, and calling
as God does in heaven." And again, "My firm conviction is that Joseph Smith was as good a man as any
prophet or apostle that ever lived upon the earth, The Savior excepted"...so says Journal of
Discourses Vol. 10, page 364.
My heart's desire and prayer to God for the Mormon people is that they might be saved, for I bear
them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge, for they being ignorant of
God's righteousness and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted
themselves unto the righteousness of God, for Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to
everyone that believes. (Romans 10:1-4)
"Therefore by the deeds of the law shall no flesh be justified." Romans 3:20.
"If there had been a law given which could have given life, verily righteousness should have been by
the law." Galatians 3:21
Dear friend, God wants you to be saved and know it. "The Lord is not slack concerning His promise,
as some count slackness; but is long-suffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish but
that all should come to repentance." 2 Peter 3:9
James 5:20 says, "Let him know, that he that converts the sinner from the error of his way shall
save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins," and Jesus said, "Verily, verily I say
unto you, He that hears my word, and believes on Him who sent me, has everlasting life, and shall
not come into condemnation but is passed from death into life..." John 5:24. And again in John
3:16-17, "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believes in
Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not His Son into the world to condemn
the world: but that the world through Him might be saved."
This is how God saved a Mormon, and He can save you too. Will you trust Him right now? "Now is the accepted time; behold now is the day of salvation." 2 Corinthians 6:2.
